Beach Baby {Bribie Maternity Session}

I was just doing up some prints for this family when I realised I hadn’t blogged their maternity session! Posting these photos tonight while I’m rugged up in my doona, it’s hard to believe how terribly hot and muggy it was on this day and this family were absolute rock stars!

I first met Matt and Roanne a few years ago when their little girl was a beautiful baby bump.  Then last year I was so blessed to be invited to photograph their stunning wedding and now here they are about to welcome another little person into the world!

Mel and Bec’s Beautiful Maternity Session (and some surprise legal document signing) {Brisbane Maternity (and wedding) Photographer}

Quite possibly my longest title ever – but if ever there was a session deserving of a magnificantly long title – this is it!

I was overjoyed when I heard from Bec and Mel that they were expecting a little baby.  I was even more excited when Mel said she wanted to do a milk bath as part of her maternity session.

Mel and Bec decided to have their session the same day as their baby shower which was wonderful because I could photograph all of the special little details of their baby shower as well!

The day was absolutely stunning as I (eventually) found the hidden little property at Mount Samson where the shower was being held.

After spending some time soaking in the milk bath – including a little visit from one of the resident baby goats, we headed outside.  I’d just like to point out here that Bec and Mel are quite possible the most lucky weather clients I have ever had.

Just as we made it out to the little lake the clouds let the sun peek through in the most beautiful way – just like it did 2 years ago at their wedding…. Speaking of which….

After our little stroll and as the Baby Shower was about to begin Mel let me know she had a little surprise planned for Bec.  She had the celebrant who had officiated at their wedding arriving so they could sign their legal wedding documents after the law change here in the land of Oz last year!  I was so excited I couldn’t leave until I’d captured a few images of this special occassion.  Wow!  What a day!

Waiting on Baby {Petrie Maternity Photographer}

It’s hard to believe that only a few years ago I was asking people to volunteer to be my guinea pigs as I prepared a portfolio to move into the professional photography circle.  This lovely couple were one of those volunteers when they were pregnant with this hansom young who is about to become a big brother!  I hope you enjoy your photos and congratulations on your baby girl!

Waiting for baby

Thank you to this gorgeous couple who let me come and capture this special time as they wait for their first baby.  It was such a beautiful afternoon down at the Shorncliffe pier and the mum-to-be was such a great sport.  I wish I had that energy at 37 weeks.

All the best with the birth of your little girl and growing your family!

Awaiting a beautiful little girl

This mumma-to-be responded to my request for volunteers for lifestyle maternity shoots.  But there was a little secret we need to keep.  You see mum new the sex of the baby but dad did not,  This nursery was lovingly prepared in secret and we have been waiting on the birth announcement to share this little album with you.

Just look at this gorgeous and determined lady on her due date adding the finishing touches

Adding the finishing touches

This little family are now cuddling their little girl so here is your full gallery.  Thank you so much for welcoming me into your home to document this important time.  I hope you enjoy these pictures now that your little girl is earthside.

I read a beautifully written article recently about this period of being in-between, zwischen.  That time in late pregnancy where you are in-between your old life and the new life waiting on the other side of birth.

This beautiful family are in their time of zwischen, awaiting the birth of their fifth baby.

And I am also in my time of waiting.  Waiting with my camera charged, clothes ready to jump into at a moments notice, waiting for my first opportunity to photograph a birth.  I feel so blessed my this family for allowing me to be with them as they prepare to welcome their new baby into this world at home I popped around last week to meet them and capture a couple of lifestyle maternity shots  where they are preparing to welcome this brand new life.

What better way to document your pregnancy than in the environment where you feel most comfortable.  At home. So as I settle down tonight with my camera bag packed beside me and my phone close at hand I thought I would share some pictures of this families zwischen time.

Bellies to Baby ~ Part 2

Yesterday I was talking about how precious Maternity or pregnancy photos are and today I wanted to talk about the next best thing – newborn squishy-ness.

In those last few weeks of pregnancy when all you want to do is meet the new person inside of you, many people will tell you not to wish it away.  Caring for that baby while its tucked up nice and tidy (and quiet) inside you is so much easier.  But while you are counting down the days it’s a good time to consider getting some pictures of that beautiful baby.

There are generally two types of newborn photography at the moment; the first is ‘posed newborn photography’ – this is the one with all those gorgeous props, baskets, backdrops.  The ones that conjure up images of Anne Geddes Calendars.  They are usually conducted in studio and take between 3-4 hours.  Baby is usually kept asleep for these images and it is best done within the first 2 weeks of life.  Another style is ‘lifestyle newborn photography’. This one involves the photographer coming to your house and photographing your beautiful new baby in the space you have lovingly prepared for them.  We still do some traditional poses but your hands form the support for baby and we can capture the gorgeous relationship between you and baby. These sessions usually take between 2-3 hours and baby may be asleep, awake or both.  I will follow bubs lead and see what happens.  This type of photography can take place at anytime.  – And don’t worry about needing to have a spotlessly clean house: I have children – I understand.  All I require is an uncluttered space with good light – the bedroom, nursery and lounge room can often provide this.  We can move any artifacts of normal life with a child (ie. piles of washing/folding/ dishes) to one side – you will never see them in the images 🙂

The new type of newborm photography that I am starting to offer is called Babydaze photography.  This is a short session conducted in the hospital or home in the days just after baby is born – preferable the first three.  In this session I capture all those squishy newborn memories – the hospital tags (for a hospital birth), gorgeous little wrinkles, crib/room number, first meetings with grandparents and sibling – all those precious things that only happen in the first few days.

If you are interested in any of these – or would like to know more about maternity and newborn packages please contact me for more details 🙂
